RuPaul is America's Sweetest Drag Queen and Still Prettier Than You...
Reality Femme Fatales
"Workin' It! RuPaul's Guide to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Style," honey, SHE has got it going on!
Read it, turn to the left
Read it, now turn to the right
Read it, sashay shante
I have one thing to say... you better read it, bitch!
RuPaul is on my mind quite a bit.
Not because of his television show, “RuPaul’s Drag Race, “ or because I seem to always have the ending lyrics to Supermodel (You Better Work) stuck in my head every time deadlines get heavy.
RuPaul is on my mind for another reason—it’s because I cannot believe how many female reality TV stars look like a family of drag queens!
It's impossible to count how many times I have said to myself, “Is she real?” every time another one of these reality divas joins the boob tube brigade.
Drag queens, for the most part, idolize women in parody of the roles that they play. However, the TV schmaltz-a-thons are actually mocking themselves with their higher than high hair and to-the-beyond hair extensions , overdone makeup, flawlessly fake tan, too short dresses, and the whole schmaltzy package looks like a girl trying to look like a boy looking like a girl. All I can say is that sometimes it’s better to be authentic in owning your creation than to be born “real.”
RuPaul is authentic.
Through the tucks and tapes, padding and priming, he has created the image of America’s sweetest and prettiest drag queen with an extensive body of work that includes his new book, "Workin' It! RuPaul's Guide to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Style."
